Pages and templates
Inkblot includes templates for your brand story, an FAQ, a contact page, a New arrivals page and the AI Stylist, alongside the pages every store has: blog, cart, 404, password and gift card.
Assign a template
A template with a name after the dot, such as page.faq, applies only to the pages you give it.
- From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages, and open the page, or click Add page to create one.
- In the Theme template drop-down menu, choose the template: who-we-are, faq, contact, new-arrivals or ai-stylist.
- Click Save.
To edit a template's sections, open the theme editor, choose the template from the drop-down menu at the top, and pick one of the pages that uses it. Collections have one extra template, collection.new-arrivals; see New arrivals helix.
Who we are
The page.who-we-are template tells your brand story as a sequence of large numbered panels, followed by an FAQ.
- Add a Story panel block for each chapter, with a Heading and a Body. Write one paragraph per line in plain text: the page re-wraps each line to animate it, so bold text, links and manual line breaks aren't kept. Around six panels reads best.
- Add a FAQ block for each question, with a Question and an Answer.
- Eyebrow label is the small label at the top of the page, and FAQ heading is the large heading over the questions.
- The panel numbers and the FAQ heading use the Display numerals and Display heading fonts in Theme settings.
FAQ
The page.faq template shows questions that expand to show their answers. Set the Heading and Intro text, and add a Question block for each question. In an Answer, each line becomes a paragraph. The template starts with example questions about orders, returns, delivery, sizing and payment; replace every answer with your own policies before you publish.
Contact
The page.contact template has a contact form with name, email, an optional phone number and a message, beside your other contact details.
- Messages from the form go to your store's sender email, which you set in Settings > Notifications.
- Every label on the form, the submit button and the thank-you message are settings in the Contact section, as are the heading and intro.
- Add a Contact detail block for each other way to reach you, such as your address, phone number or returns address. Each has a label, a value, an optional link (for example a map or a
tel:link) and an optional note.
Standard pages
Pages without a special template use page, which shows the page's title and content. Show the page title hides the title when your content starts with its own heading. Content width sets how wide the text runs: Narrow for comfortable reading, Medium or Wide for pages laid out like landing pages.
Blog and blog posts
The blog page
The Blog posts section lists a blog's posts as rows, with topic links to filter them.
- Articles per page
- From 4 to 24.
- Second line
- A line under the blog's name. When a shopper filters by topic, the topic replaces it.
- Show topics
- Shows up to 12 of the blog's tags as topic links. The topic being viewed always shows.
- Show author
- Off by default, because on a blog with one author the same name repeats on every row.
A blog post
- Show excerpt
- Shows the post's excerpt under its heading, when it has one.
- Featured image shape
- Original shape, Wide or Tall. Tall images never take up more than 70% of the screen height.
- Show topics
- Links to the blog filtered by each of the post's tags.
- Show previous and next
- Links to the neighboring posts.
Comments appear under a post when the blog allows them. To turn comments on, go to Content > Blog posts in your Shopify admin, open Manage blogs, choose the blog, and pick a comment setting. Comments that wait for your approval show a message to the person who posted them.
Cart
The cart page lists each item with its variant, price, any discount and quantity, and shows the subtotal, cart discounts, a note about taxes and shipping, and the checkout button.
- Show order note
- A box where shoppers can leave a note with their order. What they type is saved as they go.
- Show accelerated checkout buttons
- Express checkout buttons for the wallets you've turned on in Settings > Payments.
- Empty-bag screensaver image
- When the cart is empty, an image drifts across the screen and bounces off the edges. Upload your own, or leave it empty to use the theme's badge.
- Empty-bag screensaver animation URL
- An animated image (WebP or GIF) to use instead, when no image is uploaded. It loads from the address you enter, so use artwork you own, hosted somewhere that will keep serving it.
The cart drawer, the add to cart confirmation and the cart reminder are covered in Getting started.
404 page
Shown when a link leads to a page that doesn't exist. It says the page wasn't found and offers a search field and a link to your home page. Headline and Second line replace the default wording; Show search hides or shows the search field.
Password page
Shown while your store is password protected, which you turn on or off in Online Store > Preferences. It shows your logo or store name, a headline, an optional email signup, and a way for visitors with the password to enter.
- Logo
- Leave empty to use the logo from your store's brand settings, or your store name.
- Headline and Second line
- Replace the default wording.
- Show email signup
- Visitors who sign up are added to your customers with the tag
newsletter.
Gift card page
The page a customer opens from their gift card email. It shows the card's balance, its code with a button to copy it, a QR code that can be scanned at checkout in store, and an Add to Apple Wallet button. The page prints cleanly for customers who want a paper copy. It has no settings; it follows your colors and fonts.
Customer accounts
Inkblot includes the sign-in, create account, account, order, addresses, password reset and activation pages. Your store uses them only with legacy customer accounts. With Shopify's newer customer accounts, Shopify hosts those pages itself. You can check which your store uses in Settings > Customer accounts.
